Preparation
| A race like no other…Multi-stage races require both plenty of endurance and the ability to recuperate quickly. Before arriving at the Foulées de la Soie competitors should undertake a training programme which is both long enough (build up should be over several months) and sufficient in dietary matters. We insist on this because of the change in time zones -- it is necessary for competitors to arrive in top condition at the start of the competition. Please take note of the following advice. Foulées de la Soie and Training The race is best recommended to athletes who prefer long-distances and who have qualities of endurance. While the training regime should be based on the amount of training (with kilometre targets), it is important also that the quality of the training should be right. The essential element is the development of aerobic fitness and so any training programme should include a considerable amount of exercise directed at maximising VO2. This training is best undertaken on or off-road in the outdoors. A programme of this sort will also help your physiological development, enabling you to increase your physical limits. It is the quality of the training regime that is important. Listening to the rhythms of the body is vital. Foulées de la Soie and Nutrition To run 10, 15, or 21 kilometres each day for fifteen days in radically differing environments – humidity, dry heat and at altitude – is extremely demanding and deserves careful consideration. Suitable preparation will develop dietary rules that will optimise your effectiveness. Physical exertion stimulates particular needs which may not satisfied even by a carefully balanced normal diet. In China the food will be different from what you are used to and so you may want to balance this diet by taking nutritional supplements (gels, bars and sports drinks). For this reason Foulées de la Soie and Punch Power have worked together to create a complete range of nutritional products. Though it is important to maintain a balanced diet while you are running in these extreme conditions, it is also important to test your diet before leaving home. And of course it is important to remain well hydrated at all times. ‘Everyone deserves the best chance’ |
