Adventure without Misadventure Inspired by a book by Jean-Claude le Cornec and Denis Riche
Recognised as one of the finest adventure races on the planet, Foulées de la Soie is unique as the only race of its type that takes place in China
The Cost of Participation The enormous cost of staging an event like Foulées de la Soie is covered mainly by the competitors themselves with their enrtry fee. In order to relieve the financial burden on runners the event regulations encourage the participation of sponsors.
Sponsorship and Remuneration There are excellent possibilities for publicity. The message of the race is a compelling one: of adventure, of preparation and of perseverance. It is sporting endeavour in its untainted simplicity. It is commitment and achievement.
There is also a message of travel, of encounter with other cultures, an encounter all the more heart-felt because the other people are runners themselves. Finally there is an important message of team-work. In order to succeed teams must be organised, united and self-reliant.
Media The publicity generated by the Foulées de la Soie has made the event well known in France. In 2002 press coverage was valued at 170,000 Euros in terms of advertising space. The press dossier ran to 250 pages of articles. Sponsors’ names are on display throughout the event and to reinforce the association, the regulations allow for partners’ names to be placed on the running jerseys.
